Throughout the years, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation (FWCRC) has upheld the belief that we shape our future by shaping our community. When Michael Pickett, a local gospel musician, community photographer and graphic designer, set out searching for a subject that would capture the essence of FWCRC's mission, he went around Fifth Ward looking for photos of houses that represented what the organization was trying to overcome as well as what it had accomplished. In the 5th Ward community, there is a view that quality of life is defined by housing choices. Misconceptions spring forth because the beauty of a “home” may not be readily seen. There is a new hope that Houston will come to realize the elegance and rich culture that 5th Ward has to offer. The residents of the 5th Ward community have definitely gone through many changes, trials and struggles, but houses here have always represented “home." We are captivated by the beauty and transition of this newly remodeled community, and look forward to seeing more smiling faces.
Fifth Ward CRC is a catalytic organization dedicated to the collaborative fostering of holistic community development.
